Seng Kee Chicken Rice Restaurant

Japanese famous travel guidebooks, "GIO GLOBE TROTTER"series, gather lots of interesting information. One of the series about Singapore also explains about hawkers in details. There, "Kok Kee Chicken Rice (Stall No. 01-22)" was described as one of the best chicken rice stalls in Singapore. I therefore came a long way to Bugis Square, which is located at the crossroads, Ravender St. and Bencoolen St..
BUT! Kok Kee, though it still exists there, does NOT make chicken rice. Now it becomes a Wan Ton Noodle stall. The owner of the shop, a middle aged woman, told us " We gave up cooking chicken rice. No good chicken is available any more.".

But, we came here to eat chicken rice. I could not give up eating chicken rice and fortunately found one only chicken rice stall just beside Kok Kee.

I ordered at "Seng Kee" this chicken rice (left). S$3 together with soup is not bad quantitatively. What especially interested me was the soup (right) with chicken leg winter melon, which I had never eaten at chicken rice stalls.
However, chicken rice was just ordinary. Apart from that there was a useless wing, chicken was not smooth, what is vital. Rice was not cooked well enough. Maybe, the choice of rice was not appropriate. Nevertheless, as a chicken rice stall just around the corner I appreciate this stall.

I still regret very much that "Kok Kee Chicken Rice" disappeared.
